Our Client is a leading producer of frozen food products for retail and foodservice markets throughout Canada, the United States, and around the world. We have state-of-the-art potato processing plants in Prince Edward Island, Lethbridge, Alberta, and Jamestown, North Dakota, and an appetizer plant in Wheatley, Ontario. Our Head office is in Dieppe, New Brunswick and has sales office locations in Toronto, Montreal, and Boston. 

 

Reporting to the Director of Farming Operations, the Farm Manager will provide expertise and oversee the management of successfully growing potatoes for French Fry Processing. This includes directing daily activities from Potato Planting, Growing, Harvesting and Storing in a manner that clients attain the highest possible yields and profitability from farm operation. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a strong work ethic, “Can Do” attitude and the ability to adapt to a fast paced, dynamic work environment. Qualifications:

  • Education Required: Post-secondary education in Agriculture and/or a minimum of 10 years’ experience growing potatoes (specifically early generation seed)
  • Years of Experience Required:
  • 10+ years farm management experience
  • Experience preparing and managing budgets
  • People management experience
  • Experience growing potatoes under intensive irrigation
  • Experience with development of the following:
  • Centre Pivot Irrigation
  • Land Clearing and conversion
  • Tile Drainage
  • Full understanding of Virus and Disease management a requirement
  • Chemical applicators license
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with a strong focus on program improvement
  • Negotiation and business skills including the ability to market and sell all seed produced
  • Willing to work flexible hours is required
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the flow of seed thru all generations to ensure correct volume of each to satisfy the processing plant requirements
  • Identify/implement crop management practices to enhance quality of production and evaluate current and new production practices
  • Source seed potatoes from producers and sell to new and existing growers
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to determine seed requirements to meet business demands
  • Management of financial budgets, cost statements and profitability
  • Cultivate positive relationships with our suppliers and customers in the farming Community
